Amazing Grace
Publisher Desc.
Many people are familiar with the story of how "Amazing Grace"
came into being as a song. The tune "New Britain" has become so
associated with the song that many people do not even know that the lyrics
can be put with many other tunes.
This arrangement for 12-bell by Mark Lewis does go with the very
traditional "New Britain," however it is quite unique. Even though
this is a 12-bell piece with no bell changes, the arrangement sets the tune
in three different tonal centers: F major, Bb major, and the mode of C
Dorian. Additionally, verses alternate between the traditional 3/4 time
signature and the not so traditional 4/4 meter. The accompaniment to the
melody is very active, consisting of running eighth notes or syncopated
eighth-note/quarter-note patterns for most of the piece.
