This landmark series collects compelling, useful, singer-friendly arias from a distinctly American opera tradition. Each volume includes from 32 to 43 arias, with information about each opera and an aria plot note. The majority of the music has never before been available outside the opera vocal score. Opera composers such as Samuel Barber, William Bolcom, Douglas Moore, Virgil Thomas and Gian Carlo Menotti are well represented. Additional arias are included from important works such as "Regina"; "A Streetcar Named Desire"; "The Ghosts of Versailles"; "The Great Gatsby"; "Little Women" and others. Stephen Sondheim also made available new aria editions from "Sweeney Todd" - The Contest in the tenor volume, and Epiphany in the baritone/bass volume.
