Prelude on Wondrous Love opens with a chant-like statement in the euphoniums before proceeding to an energetic setting. Ballad on Balm in Gilead features a rich jazz harmonization of this familiar spiritual. Scherzo on Nettleton (Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing) provides rhythmic playfulness throughout. The piece concludes with March on Wilson (When We All Get to Heaven), which features many textures and contemporary harmonies. This work is a wonderful way to share the richness of American hymntunes with all listeners.
