Amore Scaduto

Amore Scaduto (roughly translated "Broken Love") borrows its title from a romance novel that composer Lee Hyla saw at a newsstand in Rome in the autumn of 2004. This brief duo for violin and cello mirrors the action of a romantic relationship as the instruments find themselves in varying degrees of compatibility. Like the two parties in a troubled relationship, each threatens to take off in a separate direction, yet they manage to find occasional points of unification and resolution. Written in celebration of Network for New Music Philadelphia's 20th anniversary, Amore Scaduto is a witty and elegantly structured addition to the violin and cello repertoire.
