And It Came to Pass
This canticle based on texts taken from the Gospel of Luke is designed like a triptych painting. Fashioned like a visual art triptych, the "left panel" or Prologue of the piece proclaims the promise of a Savior who will bring peace; the "center panel" Canticle - the body of the work - shares the story of the birth of this Savior, Jesus; finally, the "right panel" or Epilogue of the piece confirms that the speaker has now seen that the promise of salvation has been fulfilled with the holy birth. Initially conceived for use in a religious service, it can also be successfully performed within a concert setting as it is a work of musical storytelling. Presented in a 15-minute single movement with three distinct sections. For countertenor and piano accompaniment.
