Andromaque
Chamber opera in 7 scenes. Words (in English) and music by Jack Curtis Dubowsky, based upon Jean Racine's (1639-1699) tragedy Andromaque (1667). Racine took his characters from Greek and Roman stories and adapted or created new situations for them in accordance with baroque fascination with neo-classicism in literature. Andromaque is a love quadrangle in which all who love die or go insane. Only the prisoner-queen Andromaque, who is incapable of love, survives. Scenes range in difficulty from intermediate to advanced; college / conservatory level. Five roles: Andromaque (Soprano), Hermione (Alto), Oreste (Tenor), Hector (Baritone), Phyrrus (Baritone). Final number for SATB Chorus, which can be handled by the five primary roles. Also Available for Baroque Ensemble SM-17-0010A, Parts SM-17-0010AX.
