Here is a piece that is elegant in its subtlety. Even in the second half of the piece when the battery and mallet instruments open up, it stays classy and controlled. Only at the very end do the timbres border on bombastic as the piece drives to a solid finish. The word "batik" refers to a Javanese dying technique used primarily in fabrics.
