Lower woodwinds and brass begin the melody and upper woodwinds contrast with a soulful counter melody. "Native Beauty," the second movement, is relaxed and sweeping while the third movement, "Harvest Celebration," features a strong trumpet melody, exciting full-band scoring and a vibrant conclusion. Throughout the work there are simple melodies and rhythms layered with sonorous counter melodies which sound more difficult than they really are.
