Although the majority of his compositions are for solo guitar, Coste's friendship with several of the most prominent oboists in Paris resulted in a number of works for the oboe. The Caprice for Two Oboes does not bear a dedication, so the pair that inspired the piece remains anonymous. The Caprice is a delightful work that demands technical skill endurance, and musicianship from both players. The holograph consists of two separate parts. I have included a score in this edition to facilitate rehearsals and answer any questions of ensemble. I have left the pages of the two parts unbound, as standard "booklet" format did not yield any available spots to actually turn pages. This way the performers may shift their pages as convenient or have all three pages spread out over two music stands. I hope that my colleagues will find this work as charming as I do and that this first publication will result in many performances.
