Colonial Song
This particular arrangement for saxophone ensemble was created using Grainger's piano solo version. The dynamic and tempo indications are Grainger's own words and, although rather unusual, provide some insight into his own thoughts on the performance of his music. The work is rich in sonority and further enhanced by the natural harmonics of the saxophone ensemble. This piece makes an excellent contrasting work for any concert due to its calm, dignified air. The addition of sopranino and bass saxophone parts allows advanced groups a chance to pull out all the stops and really shine.
