The Dakotas is a recital suite composed by Melody Bober for the late-intermediate-level student. It portrays the beauty and the rich heritage of the vast expanse of North and South Dakota. The first movement is entitled The Great Plains and is a majestic introduction to the sweeping landscapes. The second movement, Heirlooms and Lace, is slow and expressive using beautiful melodic lines. The third movement is entitled Badlands Rough Rider and is an energetic, staccato movement with fast, chromatic scalar passages in the right hand and an articulated left hand.
