This contest piece for young string orchestra conveys an atmosphere of antiquity, while being bold and aggressive.  The melody is shared among sections as the infectious, syncopated rhythms create interest in the accompanying parts.  The middle, contrasting section should be played legato without losing the persistent rhythmic drive.  Very exotic!
