Don Quixote

Milton Nascimento/Arr. Paul Mckee - UNC Jazz Press
Don Quixote, composed by Brazilian singer/songwriter Milton Nascimento, features a beautiful and haunting melody that works well as a trombone feature. The chart begins in a dark, brooding mood (with hints of Gil Evans) and eventually transforms into a brighter second section culminating in an exciting peak before a brief return to the beginning section. The improvised sections are in the trombone part, but could easily be distributed to other soloists. This is a unique, contemporary composition with roots in the Brazilian tradition and will be enjoyed by both performers and audiences.
