Every Life Shall Be a Song
A celebration of life, unity, and music, this is a setting of a poem by the 19th-century English author John Addington Symonds. The text speaks of the future with hope, with the healing and transforming power of music being essential to this hope. The musical expression alternates between added-tone chords which represent building for the future, melodic phrases for the more tender passages of the poem, and soaring choral lines. The optional brass and percussion accompaniment make for a powerful and beautiful orchestration. Commissioned and premiered by the Boston Gay Men's Chorus.
