Flight 7

This straight-ahead blues-rock piece is written for a standard jazz ensemble, but comes with alternate parts for flexibility. These parts include all of the standard concert band instruments. The alternate parts will be convenient for the teacher who includes a few non-typical instruments in a school jazz ensemble in order to cover for missing instruments or to double or reinforce parts. They could also be used to provide a jazz ensemble experience for a concert band with a rhythm section. Each part includes a full-range concert C blues scale for use when improvising in the open solo section. The teacher can use this scale for exercises to help students learn how to use the scale when improvising.
