Flute Concerto
Commissioned by Texas Woman's University in 2018 as a tribute to a flute pedagogue and professional, Dr. Pamela Youngblood, this concerto is in a standard three-movement form, with the first and third movements acting as fast bookends of virtuosity to contrast the much more gentle and lyrical second movement. The first movement opens with an extended cadenza for the flute before transitioning to an energetic up-tempo dance featuring long melodic lines for the soloist. Jazz and modal-inspired harmonies, rhythmic syncopation, and playful elements are used throughout. c. 20 minutes
