For Morning Comes

This choral work for TTBB choir was chosen as the winner of the 2020 Cantus Youth & Emerging Composer Competition. Composed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this piece represents the bitter anguish and despair that sprouted from in-person premieres and events being cancelled due to public health concerns. Composer, Carlos Lalonde, was struck especially hard as his senior year of high school was perpetually put on-hold and duly terminated. In his words, "As a high school senior, all events including in-person classes, prom, band concerts, graduation, and my own composition premieres have been canceled. Without having said my last goodbyes to my friends and school faculty, a great portion of my life was mercilessly lost due to factors beyond my control". In an attempt to gain some closure, this piece represents the light at the end of the tunnel, For Morning Comes.
