Four Angels Circle 'Round My Head
Publisher Desc.
The text is a paraphrase of the complete 1625 Thomas Ady prayer ("Black Paternoster" or Night Prayer) from which "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" was extracted. The piece also utilizes Mark 10:12, & Romans 8:17. The paraphrase removes some of the foreboding nature of the original, and creates a more optimistic, uplifting prayer of God's love and salvation. While the text utilizes what has become a "child's" prayer, its origins were of adult use and is an appropriate text for all. The paraphrased text emphasizes that salvation is provided through God's love, and as the Kingdom of God belongs to the little children, if we are like little children, we can be heirs of his glory and inherit salvation. Four Angels Circle "Round My Head would be appropriate for use during any part of the liturgical year, and is available in six voicings: Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, and Bass. Downloads of MP3 recordings of the piano accompaniment alone (for practice or performance) are available at: https://www.brianscottstorymusic.com/vocal-solos
