The Four Latin Dances were commissioned by pianist Imelda Delgado in memory of her father, Narciso Delgado (1903-1977), an important figure in Tejano music. Composer Richard Crosby and Delgado were brought together by a mutual interest in Sidney Foster (1917-1977) an extremely influential American pianist and pedagogue. To fulfill the commission, Crosby turned to the ABCs of Latin countries notable for their dance traditions: Argentina (tango), Brazil (bossa nova), and Cuba (bolero and mambo). This delightful set of pieces is sure to become a popular addition to the oboist's recital repertoire.
