Fragile
Drawing from his own experiences with depression, this mature work for young ensembles by Randall Standridge is a meditation on the lives of those who live with mental health conditions. At times melancholy, terrifying, triumphant, and confused, it is carefully tailored to be accessible to younger ensembles and to provide programs with a tool to spark discussions about mental health. Beautiful melodies, colorful scoring, and an aleatoric moment create a stunning work that will leave an impact on players and audiences alike. Part of Standridge's unBroken Project, it highlights all sections equally throughout the work, with a lush opening viola soli and an emotional solo violin moment featuring optional shifting.
