Powell has composed six preludes on early American hymn tunes: LENOX, BABELAOS STREAM, THE SAINT'S DELIGHT, SAMANTHRA, SAVANNAH, and BETHEL. The beautiful and ruggedly modal character of the original tunes is respected and highlighted in Powell's accessible settings.
