This exceptional six-minute Easter musical drama is the perfect alternative to much longer cantatas. It begins with the angels' proclamation to the women: "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but is risen." A tightly woven tapestry of scriptural narrative, traditional hymns, and carols tells the Easter story from the arrival of the women at the tomb on Easter dawn to Jesus' appearance to his disciples. The triumphant final chorus, Praise to the Risen Christ!, features the lyrics by Douglas Wagner ingeniously sung to the hymn tune Lasst uns Erfreuen (All Creatures of Our God and King). Available in both SATB and SAB voicings, it features narration with optional soloist and congregation.
