Inspired by the old Christmas prints of Currier and Ives, this piece re-creates the emotional flavor and atmosphere of the yuletide season of bygone days. Set against a wide expanse of snow is a farmhouse, and approaching from the road is a horse-drawn sleigh. The mood is completed by the juxtaposition of sleigh bells and of a simple melody with alternating sections in the style of Christmas carols. This edition is the first to include a full conductor’s score.
