In Flagrante Delicto
In Flagrante Delicto is a funky Latin groove written by the composer after he discovered the tune Funky Cha-Cha by Arturo Sandoval. The goal was to write a chart with the same feel/groove in mind, but with different melodic and harmonic material. It features the lead tenor and 2nd trumpet players. The title is Latin and means "in the very act of wrong doing." In the solo section, the four measure chord progression can be opened up for each soloist, with cueing of background figures in the trombones. The solo section may also be played as is if desired. Optional Latin percussion instruments will add to the groove if desired. The trumpet range goes up to a high G above the staff, but there are optional Es written at that spot. The last measure has an optional 8va on the last 3 notes (which would be a high A above the staff (final note of chart). Solo space is reserved for Tenor Sax 1 and Trumpet 2 with changes in the parts. The solo section may be opened up as described above. Instrumentation: AATTB Saxes, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones (4th trombone preferably bass), and 4 Rhythm.
