It Was a Very Good Year
This chart has been transcribed from Keely Smith's album "Keely Sings Sinatra" recorded with the Frankie Capp Orchestra. The original arrangement was done by Billy May and, in comparison to Sinatra's ballad, it plays down as a fresh and punchy, medium tempo swinger that moves along at a refreshing pace. It opens in E-flat and moves chromatically to F. Billy May clevery uses repetition of phrasing throughout the chart which brings cohesion and structure to the arrangement. There are no saxophone doubles and the vocal keys are E-flat, E and F.
