Publisher Desc.  Klezmer music was the tradition of Eastern European Jewish secular musicians who played for weddings and other celebrations in the 16th through 19th centuries, with very expressive melodies which mimicked the human voice (crying and laughing). In the early years authorities prohibited the playing a very loud music, so stringed instruments and accordion formed the basis of the ensemble. Later clarinets and trumpets were added, and today, revival groups add any instrument they wish. The name zemer comes from the Hebrew 'to make music' and this composer's maiden name, Chuzmir, was Chu-zemer, meaning 'one who makes music.'
