Liturgical Music
Liturgical Music is a work for large percussion ensemble in six movements. Biblical scripture or sacred readings inspire each movement. Despite the sacred implication, the work is intended for concert performance, although it could conceivably be performed within the service of a Christian church. The movements are organized as follows with corresponding scripture or reading: Processional (Psalm 9:11), Psalm 47, Prayer (Wisdom of Solomon 3:1-9), Dance (Psalm 150:4), Benediction (Psalm 5:8), and Recessional (words from Charles Wesley, 1739). It is scored for 13 players (bells, crotales/xylophone/chimes, two vibraphones, four marimbas, three battery, timpani, and piano). A stirring work for both player and listener!
