One of the classic examples of the Afro-Cuban style in jazz, Dizzy Gillespie's Manteca endures as a true standard. Available here in a version for young bands, Michael Sweeney carefully simplifies the complexities of the tune while maintaining the rhythmic drive and energetic style of the original. Arranged for full jazz ensemble, it's also playable with as few as 4 saxes, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones and 3 rhythm. Very nice, indeed!
