An uncommonly dark and brooding work for jazz ensemble, this composition will complement and contrast just about anything else you program. There are mallets in the drums, unusual harmonies and gestures in the brass, and a unique groove in the bass instruments. The overall effect is an orchestral vibe with fairly conventional big-band scoring. The ad lib space is for trumpet and trombone.
