Commissioned by John Armitage Memorial, Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal, with a text by Tennyson, is the first of four unaccompanied divisi works under the same title. The music is slow, beautiful, and full of vocal color. Professor Mealor succeeds at painting the loveliest picture of this text through the vocal colors. This work was premiered by combined choirs from The University of St. Andrews Chapel Choir, University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir and the Edinburgh University Chamber Choir.
