One Sacrifice
This 20 to 25-minute choral experience draws from the concept of God's one voice and his one great sacrifice. The six accessible anthems cover a variety of musical styles, and will appeal to contemporary as well as traditional congregations, while the narration for one male and one female voice provides thought-provoking drama. One Sacrifice can be used any time during the Easter season. For a meaningful Good Friday or Lenten service, the cantata should conclude with the fifth choral piece, One Sacrifice. The optional meditation based on Were You There? can follow or underscore a pastoral prayer, after which the congregation should leave in silence. Adding the final number, Risen One, brings a joyous conclusion to the work by taking the listener through to the events of the third day, thus creating a triumphant Easter cantata and completing the story of the death and resurrection.
