Pavane Op. 50
For Chamber Orchestra, medium-advanced or professional orchestra. Soprano Saxophone Solo with orchestra, or other Bb or C instrumentalist. The Pavane (1887) by Gabriel Faure is one of his most beloved works - often performed with voices over orchestra. Dr. Buchanan's arrangement is for instrumental soloist with orchestra. This score was commissioned and premiered by The Foundation Orchestra in 2003 at the Nevada Museum of Art to accompany an exhibition of French paintings from the late nineteenth century. More advanced performers may better bring out the subtle nuances of the lines. The original piece was for piano but later orchestrated by Faure. It has since been performed in numerous elegant arrangements, especially for ballet, choral and light-hearted venue This score of the "Pavane" by Buchanan has been performed several times by other chamber orchestras over the years. It is a pleasing composition for most audiences and is scored for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Harp, Tympani, and Full Strings.
