Mendelssohn's setting of Non nobis Domine marked the arrival of his maturity as a composer of sacred music and was the first in the series of five great psalm-cantatas that, along with the oratorias St. Paul and Elijah, represent his most important contributions to the nineteenth century choral/orchestral repertoire. However, Non nobis Domine has never before been presented in an Urtext edition. This edition seeks to address significant aspects of the work's genesis, performance history, and publication history that have previously been unaddressed. The four-movement work is presented with Latin and German texts, along with an appendix that offers the original five-part introduction to fourth movement.
