Quartet
Quartet for percussion was written as a compositional exploration of expanding upon one simple, repetitive idea. Inspiration for the piece was drawn from Steve Reich, the father of minimalist percussion music. Several of Reich's techniques are adapted including adding one note at a time to a melody as well as a limited range for the melody, and use of meter-shifting polyrhythms. The result is a meditative and rhythmically complex fabric, tightly woven with relentless groove.
