Drumming is a simple and attractive music activity for those with special needs. Often manual disability is a detrimant to playing a drum. The need to hold a mallet securely can be a challenge for persons with grasping disabilities. There are also muscular hand deficiences that can cause problems for striking a drum with a mallet. The mallets below are constructed to reduce these deficiences. Three mallets are constructed with extra thick handles to provide a greater area of surface for grasping than typical thinner handle mallets. Grasping is also enhanced with those mallets made with square handles which reduce the tendency for the mallet to turn in the hand. One square handle mallet is made for using 2 hands to hold it. The right angle mallet is made for persons who are only able to move their wrists from left to right and not up and down in a forward motion. Several of the mallets also have VELCRO® as an added way to enhance grasping.
