Skyline Serenade is a representation of the different emotions that can be felt when looking at the Chicago skyline at different points in time. The piece opens with a somber cloudy winter sky and ends on a clear energetic summer night. This piece is great for advanced ensembles that are comfortable shifting up to third position for all instruments and 4th position for cello who want to show off the robust sound with a cinematic work or intermediate ensembles that want to explore these concepts.
This composition was commissioned by the New Canon Project, a partnership between the American Choral Directors Association, the American String Teachers Association, and Rising Tide Music Press, with support of the Sphinx Venture Fund and the National Endowment for the Arts. The New Canon Project's mission is to commission new works by Black and Latinx composers for the orchestra and choral classrooms.
