The composition of the Suite for Saxophone Quartet began in the summer of 2016 and was completed during the summer of 2019. The four movements of the work span a variety of moods and styles, each with a descriptive title. In the first movement, "Invention," the composer pays homage to the style of the late Baroque and particularly the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The second movement, "Bop," evokes the style of the Bebop era of the late 1940s and 1950s. The third movement, "Heard in a Dream," is a tuneful ode and was inspired by a dream the composer had when he conjured the main melody in his sleep. The fourth movement, "Disquietude," offers a perpetually ferocious end to the work.
