Sweet Hour of Prayer
A cappella
Publisher Desc.
The words of this very popular hymn were composed in 1845 by William Walford, a blind preacher in Warwickshire, England, who dictated them to a friend. New England organist/composer William Bradbury set the words to music in 1861. This setting for unaccompanied three-part women's chorus with flute obligato is suitable for either a worship setting or concert performance. The harmonies and voice-leading are straightforward, and the ranges are moderate. Singers and audiences alike will enjoy this simple, reverent rendition of a favorite 19th Century hymn.
