Through four movements, this symphony demonstrates the composer's writing prowess at its peak. It tells the story of a composer's ghost and their widow. A meditation on death, love, grief, memory, and hope, this symphony for wind band is effective in its entirety or through its individual movements. Movement 2, Loss, begins with a lone clarinet as the widow mourns her lost companion. At turns soft and powerful, this lyrical movement is an excellent showcase of instrumental color and expression.
