Tachun

Composed in 2021 for The Joy Project, a series of uplifting works for performance at free outdoor concerts in the San Francisco Bay region. The work's title comes from the annual Chinese spring festival, when people go outdoors and travel to welcome the arrival of the new season. This cheerful five-minute work features energetic melodic lines in unison contrasting with vivid rhythmic patterns, which the composer indicates as expressing our excitement upon breathing the fresh spring air.
