Teaching Music Through Performance in Band, Vol. 5
As with the other volumes in this series, the fifth volume contains extensive analysis of 100 band compositions from grade levels 2 through 6 which includes historical background about the composition and composer, technical requirements, stylistic considerations, musical elements, and suggested references. In addition, there are chapters dedicated to important issues relating to the band directing profession, including: Why Music? Why Band? by Tim Lautzenheiser, The Mysterious World of In-Tune Playing by Edward S. Lisk, Live Your Dreams, Not Your Nightmares: An Opus for Life by Ray Cramer, Living Expressively Among the Cymbals by Eugene Migliaro Corporan, Some Assembly Required by Larry Blocher, and Improving Performance Through 'Sound' Seating by Richard Miles. Also included in this 920-page text are title and publisher indexes for this and all previously published volumes. Completing the highlights is a companion set of recordings by the North Texas Wind Symphony, conducted by Eugene Migliaro Corporan, of all the grade 2 and 3 works.
