The Frog Prince is the winner of the “Early Childhood News Director’s Choice Award.” The Grimm Brothers’ original story becomes even more relevant in the 21st century with lessons on ecology, the environment, geography, and social justice. And it scores high on humor and artistic values.

 

Aloysius/Alicia opens the show singing “Lily Pad Heaven” and we soon learn the fate of the baby prince and princess as an eccentric fairy godmother creates havoc. The Princess grows up in the palace to become a selfish young woman. All that changes, of course, after she meets a frog. Their friendship unfolds and they share secrets and stories.

 

The addition of a “Frog Chorus” and a “Princess Chorus,” plus “double casting” allows for variation based on the number of performers. The choruses can be involved in all eight of the musical numbers.

 

Lyrical songs like “Eeeny Meeny,” “The Golden Ball,” and “Another Night at the Palace” culminate in the majestic finale, “Sometimes a Promise.” Staging and set ideas are included in the Director’s/Teacher’s package. The show can be performed with piano only or with the accompanying tracks in MP3 format.
