The Lion Grooves Tonight
Publisher Desc.
This tune for string orchestra and rhythm section derives its energy from its light, bouncy, half-time funk feel which alternates with a swinging bridge (middle section.) This is a great piece for students to experience the subtle changes in the feel of jazz/swing music. The energetic bass line in the string bass and cello parts interacts playfully with the bluesy melody. Written solos for violin, viola, and/or cello may be played, or the students may improvise their own solos. Chords are provided in the solo and rhythm parts to allow students a chance to step-out of the notes and into the music. After the solos, the ensemble plays a big band style shout chorus which leads to the final playing of the melody. The Lion Grooves Tonight is a great alternative styles tune for medium level groups and the piece is set in G Major in first position, with the exception of a few solo violin notes. Let your audience hear you roar!
