The Peanut Vendor

Artist: Stan Kenton Molses Simons/trans. Myles Collins - Lush Life Music

Transcribed from the 1956 recording, this version of The Peanut Vendor remains one of Stan Kenton's most enduring hits. It's a feature chart for lead trombone, the trumpet section with their screaming dissonances, and piano. The Kenton piano solo is written out in full and the solo itself is a work of art, showing what can be done when improvising over just a couple of chords. To add more interest and to build the rhythm backing to the chart, rhythm indications have been written in all the brass parts, except trombone 1, to include wood blocks, claves, cabasas, and cuicas. The trumpet lines are not hard, but they are high, with 1 and 2 reaching high E, and 3 and 4 reaching high D. There are no sax doubles, the 4th trombone is bass, and optional 5th trumpet and trombone parts are included.
