Themes for Therapy
This extraordinary book is the outgrowth of the work done at the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy at New York University. Founded in 1988, the center provides outpatient services for children and adults, as well as offering advanced training in music therapy. The original music in this collection, though created for use by music therapists and music specialists working with special needs populations, is also highly suitable for preschool and early elementary children. Contents include greeting songs, songs to promote self-awareness and socialization, songs to promote physical awareness and movement, easing transitions and encouraging play, goodbye songs, and instrumental pieces using a variety of small percussion. Each song includes a description of its origin, content, and ways to use the song in a classroom setting.
