An artistic yet labored march-like piano accompaniment with oboe obligato sets the mood for this work which features lovely choral textures over a poignant memorial text. This work links the lyricism of English folk music, the rich male chorus tradition of Great Britain, and the tragedy of World War I. This is a wonderful addition to the repertoire for men's chorus.
