Three Christmas Carols

I Sing of a Maiden is a Middle English lyric poem in whose setting George Arthur creates a great spatial and harmonic effect. With Susanni, Arthur has written a cheerful and spritely setting of this old German song that begins with a trumpetlike fanfare. Balulalow is a very gentle and tranquil setting in which the text is shared among all four parts, all of which are at some point the focal point.
