This is a rich and powerful setting of a familiar nativity story. The main theme is in 5/4 time (which is easier to read than some singers might imagine) and an extended middle section is in 3/2 and later 3/4. Although the piece is tonal, there's some chromatic writing making this setting appropriate for more experienced groups of singers. The anthem contains a short a cappella section. The SAT voicing makes this arrangement suitable for competent high school or college choirs that have no bass singers. There is a short divisi section in the Soprano part. Voice ranges are as follows: Soprano D4-G5; Alto B3-D5; Tenor D3-F4.
The piano part is of moderate difficulty but could be handled by any competent pianist. The anthem would make an excellent addition to any Christmas concert, Christmas service or Nativity event. (Duration 03:42) This work is also available scored for SSA or SATB choir (from the same publisher)
