Variations on a Jingle Bells Theme
David Taylor - Per-Mus Publications
This extremely large percussion ensemble combines the familiar Jingle Bells theme in a set of very fresh and exciting variations. Many meters are used throughout, with the meter changing every measure in some sections. Scored for ten pitched (bells, two vibe parts, xylophone, four marimba parts, chimes and timpani) and five nonpitched (claves, castanets, woodblock, temple blocks, triangle, bass drum, snare drum and cymbals) instruments, a wide variety of sounds and textures are explored throughout. Marimba 1 & 3 and marimba 2 & 4 can share instruments with all pitched parts using two mallets with limited four-mallet sessions for vibe 2 and marimba 2. An extremely driving ending makes this an exciting part of any Christmas concert!
