This exciting original concert work tells the story of a sailor's first voyage! After a foggy sunrise and busy preparations in the morning, the ship sets sail for a grand adventure. Moments of intensity reflect the raging seas before the sun breaks through the clouds. At the conclusion, we hear the captain sing the lovely sea shanty, Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her as our young sailor returns home. The piece is written mostly in 12/8, moving at a rapid pace, ending with singing: tenor solo, tutti, then a measure of tenor/baritone duet. While the percussion and vocals are optional, they certainly enhance this show-stopping piece.
